  To Dissassociate or just Fade into Inactivity ? Your Choice ? Reasons ?

  this has been asked before, however i thought it may be good for newer members of the board to read some of our reasons on how we decided to exit the jw cult and why we decided to do it the way we did.. first off - i have been faded for almost 8 years.

  essentially i decided to fade into inactivity and not da because i have elderly jw parents who would shun me if i did get dfed or daed myself.

  also- i like keeping open the possibilities that some of my many jw relatives may in time start doubting and have questions and reach out to me in my inactive state.

  We discontinued all Witness activity completely. Set a date and walked out the door while still in "good standing." My family has called me everything from inactive to out of the truth to apostate.

  I don't care about witness labelling at all anymore. We've discussed our reasons with family and a few witness friends who have maintained contact despite our exit. Everyone knows I'm not into conditional relationships and if they drop me in their life, so be it.

  But I'm glad the ones I care most about haven't.

  P.S. Initially my husband wanted to write a DA letter. But even if we get out those we love, we're still not writing it. We don't care what we're called in witnessworld anymore. But I understand completely the reasons for the paths many choose when exiting.

  growing up, this is something that my other always told me.

  i've had several conversations with older sisters who have said that if they could do things over, they wouldn't have had children.

  other couples my own age are horrified at the thought of raising children in "this system".

  Your post wasn't offensive at all. I hope my reply didn't come across as if I was offended. I wasn't. I wholeheartedly agreed with everything you said. I thought you expressed yourself clearly. I think there is room for happiness either way.

  I wasn't being facetious when I said nursing homes have lonely parents in them. They really do! I was just agreeing that your position not to have kids to service you was a smart move. Because maybe they'll grow up and not do it anyway... lol.

  I hope I made myself clear. Please let me know. I'd hate to have something hanging between us. Especially when I agreed with you... lol

  Exactly. I totally understand not wanting to spend decades of one's life married and raising kids... lol. Having a family is just one way to enjoy life. Witness or not.

  And I refuse to have children, just so I can ensure someone takes "care of me" when I am old.

  That's good thinking on your part because nursing homes are full of people whose kids don't visit.

  My grandmother used to tell us that they were saying not to have kids when she was a kid. She always said that was crazy, and that we wouldn't have our family if they'd followed that counsel. So my family never endorsed that thinking.

  About half of the witness couples I know DO NOT WANT children. It really has nothing to do with being a witness. Even non-witnesses are having fewer children and remaining child-free by choice. It's not necessary to be married or have children to enjoy a full life.

  If you haven't worked out whether to marry and/or have children and you're surrounded by couples and families, using the good old JW standby to remain single and childfree for the kingdom's sake gets people off your back.

  That's just another side of the coin.

  mr falcons thread on jw partys made me think about my new family's get togethers.. once or twice a year, we have a get together/picnic ( around 40 or 50 mostly family ).. we drink quite a bit of wine/ pernod ( our wives or 'sometimes husbands) drive home ).

  i have never heard crude talk.

  people sware a bit, but in an amusing kind of way.

  They aren't weak willed. They are afraid of their positions in the congregation.

  Let's say you host or attend a function and something "unchristian" happens on your watch. Some self-righteous fool might make a big stink about it. And the next thing you know, you're being hauled into the back room and questioned. The good standing you've worked so hard to secure within the congregation is threatened.

  Most JWs are all too familiar with this process and just don't want to risk the drama.

  Still Amazed to Have Escaped

  i escaped the wt more than three years ago.

  yet, even today, i'm still amazed, surprised and thankful that i got out.

  it's easy for me to imagine having never getting the information i needed to make a clean break.

  I'm with you guys on this.

  I was always chastised for questioning "Jehovah's arrangement" while at home. And I remember the first time I criticized the GB after I arrived at Bethel. My husband called me an apostate. Boy did that reinforce the fear of losing all of my loved ones. I plodded along, buried myself even deeper in Watchtowerworld and enjoyed what was good about my life.

  Six years ago my husband started dissecting the Greek scriptures and WT teachings during the meeting. He picked apart everything that was wrong for him about the religion and the lifestyle. One Sunday afternoon he got so angry that he ripped up and threw a WT magazine out of the car window. And that was a big deal because he thinks all litterers should burn in hell, if there was one...LOL.

  He was ready to write up letters DA'g ourselves. But for the sake of my relationship with my siblings we agreed to just walk away so that I would have some hope of maintaining contact with them. So we just dropped off the scene. We had never been so happy and relieved.

  My husband drives me crazy sometimes because he says, no less than once a day, "Babe, can you believe we got out?" I'm like "uh, yeah, if you hadn't called me an apostate when we first got married, we'd have been out." LOL

  I hope to get my siblings out.

  What has the WT$ TAKEN from you?

  if you've been around here long enough, you will have seen people saying how they "gave up" or "sacrificed" certain things so that they could be good little jws.

  what about those of us who were growing up in it and we didn't even have a choice in the matter?

  what about those of us from whom some things in life were forcibly ripped away, things that 'normal' people take for granted in their life?.
